By metro

Take line A towards Battistini and get off at Cipro or Ottaviano. Cipro is the closer of the two: about 400 metres in a straight line from the middle of the museum complex, and Ottaviano is about 600 metres. The entrance is on the Viale Vaticano side, so the walk is a little longer than the straight line.

By bus and tram

Bus 49 stops in the square in front of the museums. Buses 32, 81 and 982 and tram 19 stop at Piazza del Risorgimento, and buses 492 and 990 stop on Via Leone IV and Via degli Scipioni. There is a taxi rank in the square in front of the museums. Check the lines before you go, because routes change.

From the airports

Via della Conciliazione, the wide avenue lined with lamps that leads straight to St Peter's Square and the Basilica dome

From Fiumicino or Ciampino, go to Roma Termini first. From Termini, continue by metro line A to Cipro or Ottaviano.

How do I get from the museums to St. Peter's?

Independent visitors leave at the end of the route and walk to St. Peter's Square. The distance on the map is short, but the walk is much longer than it looks, so allow time for it.

St. Peter's Square is about 600 metres from the middle of the museums in a straight line. Castel Sant'Angelo is about 750 metres from the square in a straight line, at the other end of Via della Conciliazione.
